* Country artist Willie Nelson hosted a made-for-television documentary, cosponsored by the United Church of Christ and the National Council of Churches, that began showing in October on ABC affiliate stations. Strong Roots, Fragile Farms examines the impact of globalization on family farmers in Iowa and North Carolina as well as in Mexico and the Philippines. Meanwhile, the disaster relief arm of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) has given $80,000 to help farmers in Nebraska, South Dakota and North Dakota cope with a prolonged drought. Presbyterians are cooperating on farmer-assistance programs with the United Methodist Church, the United Church of Christ and the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).
